Shayne Barton
Office Manager
I am newish to the gliding world, starting as the office manager in May of 23. I am the person who you would see in the office and the voice behind the telephone. I am also part of the social media and marketing team. Recently I had my first gliding experience in both a K21 and a T21 and loved both flights. If you find yourself at the club then pop by and say hello. 😁 Any problems or queries, get in touch with me in the office, or, come along and meet me here at Norfolk Gliding Club. -
Elle Comerford
Accounts Manager
I started working at Norfolk Gliding Club doing the accounts, at the end of February 2024. I have lived in Tibenham most of my life, and have always watched the gliders and planes whilst growing up. Now, I’ve just got to get up there!I'm in the office with Shayne on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Feel free to pop in & say hello.

I have been a part of the Norfolk gliding club since I was 13 years old and have spent the majority of my life in and around the gliding club. I have been a member since 2003, and went solo on my 16th birthday, Later on in life I now have 2 kids, Charlie and Daniel, who also come to the club and enjoy flying in the motorglider, hoping one day they will also take up gliding. I have recently returned to the Board of Directors after a long stint away due to career and kids and look forward to assisting NGC to look towards the future!

Paul Woodcock
Director - IT
My primary responsibility, is to keep the club IT systems up and running, supporting the office. I retired from the Norfolk Fire Service after more than 30 years in 2006, and joined the club in 2007. I’ve had several roles within the club including Membership Sec., Health & Safety and Treasurer. Although I have an NPPL, my real passion is gliding. -

Richard Goodchild
Director - Company Secretary and Health & Safety
Having been in and around gliding intermittently since 1967, when as a 16 year old air cadet I flew solo at RAF Swanton Morley. I am very happy and gain great satisfaction in passing on my knowledge as an Instructor, to both new students and developing pilots.I hold both Private Pilots and Sailplane Pilots Licences but prefer the challenge of gliding.
A career in construction management has given me a good understanding of health and safety legislation, which I can hopefully use for the club’s benefit.

Chief Flying Instructor
I have been the CFI since 2021 and am proud to lead a super team of instructors. I enjoy instructing, which is a natural extension to my previous day job as a teacher. Being part of the development of a student pilot is an honour and watching a pilot develop from those first, tentative, flights to going solo and beyond is always rewarding. My own glider is a fabulous Slingsby Vega and in it I enjoy cross country flying and an annual visit to Scotland to fly in the wave.
In addition to the Vega I have a share in a motorglider which provides many happy flights when the thermals let us down.

Will Day
Deputy CFI
I've been gliding since I was 6 and love instructing and cross-country flying. Just being in the air really. I have two gliders based at Tibenham - one of them is a vintage two-seater open cockpit 'wood and fabric' Slingsby T21, the other is a fast modern single-seater. My role as a Regional Examiner for the British Gliding Association gives me the chance to meet people from other clubs which is great fun as is training new pilots and instructors at Tibenham. I am semi-retired after running my own business for 25 years.
